Save the Children!

Hi guys! Hope you all are doing fantastic! Ali and I strongly believe in helping others and giving back. We believe it is an essential part of life and that is why we are teaming up with Save the Children. Save the Children is an amazing organization that provides aid to children and families in the US and in many other countries as well. They provide food, education, medical services, disaster relief, and much more. We will have a link on our blog to their website, so if you would like you can provide a donation. We encourage you guys to check out this video and leave us with any suggestion of other great charities. Talk to you later!

Apple Cider Donuts

Happy fall everyone! With the leaves changing and the pumpkins growing, there's no better way to kick into fall than with apple cider donuts. Ali and I made this great recipe and they were so good (and so easy to make!) Here's the recipe below:

Apple Cider Donut Recipe

Step 1: Get your ingredients and prepare stations
Most grocery stores carry apple cider in the produce department during the fall months and all other ingredients should be easy to find at the store or in your own pantry. If you don’t have a donut cutter, try a kitchen or home supply store. Bring along this shopping list so you don’t miss any items.

Before baking starts, set up donut making stations to streamline the process and keep everyone from stepping on each other’s toes.

Step 2: Mixing Station
At the first station, put a few of your Home Maven friends in charge of heating the cider and mixing the ingredients together in bowls to create the dough. If you’d like, you can reduce several cups of cider (one for each batch you plan to make) beforehand to speed up the process.

Friends stationed here will follow these instructions:

Boil 1 cup of apple cider in a small saucepan for 8 to 10 minutes or until cider is reduced to 1/4 cup; let cool.
In a large bowl, beat sugar with solid shortening until smooth. Add eggs and mix well, then add buttermilk and cooled cider.
In a medium-sized bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg. Add to liquid ingredients; mix ingredients just enough to combine.

Step 3: Donut-Cutting Station
At the second station, set up an area on a flat surface with a lightly floured board for cutting and shaping dough. Place baking pans covered in wax paper or parchment nearby for finished donut shapes.

Friends stationed here will follow these instructions:

Transfer dough to the lightly floured board and pat to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut with a 3-inch donut cutter; re-roll the excess donut holes and cut scraps back into the dough.
Refrigerate formed donuts on baking sheets for about 20 minutes to help firm the dough prior to frying.

Step 4: Frying Station
If you want to work at a faster pace, you can provide two frying pans at this station so more donuts can be fried at once. Also provide plates with several layers of paper towels for draining the donuts after frying.

Friends stationed here will follow these instructions:

Add enough oil or shortening to fill a deep (3-inch) pan; heat to approximately 375°F or until the oil is bubbling.
Fry several donuts at a time, turning once or twice until browned and cooked through, about 4 minutes.
Remove and place on paper towels for draining and cooling.

Step 5: Cinnamon and Sugar Station
Have one or two helpers put the finishing touch on the donuts by supplying large plastic zip-top bags containing 3 teaspoons of cinnamon and 2 cups of sugar. Once the donuts have drained and cooled a bit, they will shake up the donuts in the bag. Finished donuts can be placed on a wire rack to continue cooling.

For an added touch, have friends at this station pour the excess apple cider into a large saucepan and heat with cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, cloves and orange peel. Since they won’t have much to do right away they can keep an eye on the hot apple cider and stir occasionally. Not only will it add warm festive fragrances throughout your home, it makes a tasty complement to the donuts.

*A rinse is required for surfaces in direct contact with food.

Sweet Cupcakes

Hey guys!!!!! Hope y'all have been enjoying the nice fall weather! So over the weekend, Ali and I went to Sweet Cupcakes, which is this uber fabulous bakery in Boston known for their gourmet cupcakes. I had the red velvet cupcake, which was very good. However I expected it to taste a little bit better. I gave it a 7.5 out of 10. On the other hand, Ali had the Boston Cream Pie cupcake, which she absolutely loved. She said the cream inside was delicious and loved how it was topped with a cherry frosting. She gave it a 9.2 out of 10. Sweet Cupcakes is located in several locations in Boston, but the one we checked out was on Newbury Street. Soon, Ali and I plan on taking a little trip down south and checking out their yummy treats! We will talk with you later, Bye for now!

HALLOWEEN COOKIE CAKE!

Hi readers!
How's your week going? It's almost Friday! wooh! Staying in the Halloween spirit, we decided to post a fantastic recipe for a Creepy Cookie Cake. We tried it during the week after searching online for some new spins on some Halloween treats. It is so delicious and it will be the coolest, spookiest looking cake at any Halloween party! We gave it an 9.0 out of 10, and we surely encourage that you try it. You need cream cheese, sugar, sour cream, vanilla extract, Oreos, and a chocolate pie crust. To add dramatic effect to the cake when you finish, we suggest you add cocoa powder sifted over the cake to look like dirt, make the shells of the Oreos look like tombstones, and use royal icing to write words like BOO! or RIP. This is such an easy recipe for such an amazing cake! Having a Halloween party at school for the kids? Perfect time for the Creepy Cookie Cake! Adventure to Mrs. Fields!!

hello readers!
HAPPY FRIDAY! wooh! Everyone excited for the long weekend?! We know we are! This week we went to Mrs. Fields in the Pheasant Lane Mall! I know that sounds preschoolish and ridiculous but it's one of our favorite places to go for a tasty treat to satisfy our sweet tooth. After an afternoon of shopping we stopped by the corner of the food court and chowed down. Ali had the cookie cupcake while I had the slice of cookie cake frosted with a decadent frosting. Ali absolutely loved her cookie cupcake, as she always does. She thought the cookie was perfectly moist with a delicious frosting filling, a perfect ratio of cookie to cake. She gives it a 9.8 out of ten! My slice of cookie cake was surely a slice of heaven! It was moist and a perfect texture, not too soft, not too hard. The frosting was so sweet and I just loved it! I give it a 9.4 out of ten! Go to Mrs. Fields! A tasty treat you'll surely want to try! If you have any comments or ideas of where to go next, as always, leave us a message! Thanks and enjoy the long weekend everyone!
